Hebrews 12:2 – Fixing your eyes on Jesus the author and finisher of our faith
Introduction:
Life is full of distractions—challenges, temptations, and worldly pursuits that can shift our focus away from Jesus. However, divine encounters happen when we keep our eyes fixed on Him.
The Bible is full of people who experienced supernatural encounters because they chose to focus on Jesus, despite their circumstances.
1. Peter Walking on Water – The Power of Focus (Matthew 14:28-31)
When Peter fixed his eyes on Jesus, he did the impossible—he walked on water! But the moment he looked at the wind and waves, he began to sink. This teaches us that divine encounters are sustained by faith and focus. When we allow distractions to take our attention off Jesus, fear and doubt set in.
2. The Woman with the Issue of Blood – The Power of Pursuit (Mark 5:25-34)
For twelve years, she suffered. But when she heard about Jesus, she pushed through the crowd, fixing her eyes on Him alone. Her encounter with Christ brought instant healing. Many people were around Jesus, but only she had the focus and faith to receive a miracle.
3. The Transfiguration – The Power of Revelation (Matthew 17:1-8)
On the mountain, Jesus was transfigured before Peter, James, and John. They saw His divine glory. But when they became afraid, a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son… listen to Him!” (v. 5). When they lifted their eyes again, they saw only Jesus. Divine encounters come when we stop looking at our fears and focus on Christ alone.
How to Fix Your Eyes on Jesus:
- Through the Word – The Bible reveals Jesus (John 1:1).
- Through Prayer – Consistent fellowship aligns our hearts with Him (Jeremiah 33:3).
- Through Worship – True worship draws us into His presence (John 4:24).
- Through Faith – Trusting Jesus regardless of circumstances (2 Corinthians 5:7).
Conclusion:
Divine encounters are not reserved for a few; they are for those who fix their eyes on Jesus. When we shift our focus from problems, people, and personal struggles to Christ, we position ourselves for supernatural experiences.
