Debt Paid. Temple Tax in the Fish’s Mouth: Mat17:24-27
After Jesus and His disciples arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the two—drachma tax came to peter and asked, “Doesn’t your teacher pay the temple tax?” “Yes, he does,” he replied. When Peter came into the house Jesus was the first to speak. “What do you think, Simon?” he asked. “From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes—from their own sons or from others?” From others,” Peter answered. “Then the sons are exempt,” Jesus said to him. “But so that we may not offend them, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four—drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours.”
1. That GOD has the whole world in His hands is not news to me. What I do with that fact is the real issue at stake
2. I have come to the realisation that GOD is in control of all my situations—He is my provider—that is real.
3. That GOD can provide my needs according to His riches in glory is not a lie. Jesus proved as I just read, and in the Old Testament, the children of Israel were fed free in the desert. Why do I often doubt the LORD and what He has in store for me? Why do I have to look onto man rather than put my faith in Jesus—seeing that He is the real one that creates real miracles?
4. The time has come for me to put all my focus on the Lord Jesus, more than I have ever done and receive by faith as I work according to His leading.
Dear LORD Jesus,
Other providers will laugh at me—but you provide all that I need according to your riches in glory—that is practical and not a fable.
You are the one that provides seed to the sower—you are the one that provide bread to the eater
All the birds of the earth do not sow or reap-you are the one that provides all their food in all seasons.
You still provide in very practical ways today. Please help my unbelief—I want to receive all that belong to me—Amen.
