“… I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, both you and your descendants may live, that you may love the Lord your God, may OBEY HIS VOICE, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days …”
Holiness simply means obedience. This is because; it is not possible to be holy without being obedient to God. It is not possible for you to walk with God successfully when you refuse to obey His instruction. One of the biggest keys to success in life and ministry is obedience. When you obey God, it is a sign of divine direction. God wants to be our guide, and our guard, however if we do not trust Him, we will not obey His directions. This year, determine to obey Him absolutely.
Obedience to God is really a function of a determination to surrender completely to God. Once a person decides to fully and absolutely surrender body, soul and spirit to God, then God will take immediate control of their life and lead them in the specific direction that He desires. This process begins with obedience – Obedience to the instruction to give your life to Christ, obedience to the instruction to pay your tithe and obedience to the instruction to love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul.
If you obey God, He is willing to guide you in making every decision in life; leading you to who you will marry, which business partner you will have, which course to study, what job to do, and so on. He will perfectly lead you into your true divine calling in Him.
The best way to become prosperous is to obey divine instruction. Peter and the Lord Jesus were accused of not paying their taxes in the Bible, and deciding to pay the tax, Jesus Christ instructed Peter in the book of Mathew 17:27 – Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money:
that take, and give unto them for me and thee. Peter obeyed the instruction and was able to pay the tax, thereby avoiding trouble with the authorities.
God is interested in your prosperity, therefore obey His instructions and you will succeed. In the book of 2 Chronicles 20:20, Jehoshaphat admonished Israel, during a period of great fear, about the benefit of believing God: And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Takoma: and as they went forth,
Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem;
Believe in the Lord your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper. In that story, absolute obedience delivered the people from sure death. Absolute obedience will deliver you too.
Finally, obeying divine instruction ensures security and guarantees freedom. Absolute obedience ensures that we will not stray out of His shadow or the secret place where He hides us, nor fall prey to the adversary, the devil. We must strive to obey His instructions either through the Word of God, through His prophets, or through the still small voice.
